The reports are true! Just after midnight on Sunday morning, Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Center released inmate number 1027820 aka Orenthal James “O.J.” Simpson at 12:08am. The 70-year-old NFL Hall of Fame running back, actor, businessman, and commentator was released from a Nevada prison after serving 9 years for a Las Vegas robbery.
A spokeswoman named Brooke Keast for the Nevada Department of Corrections stated that O.J. was upbeat and happy as he left. He wanted his release to be quiet without any media attention and he didn’t want his picture to be taken. According to Yahoo, Keast said that the early morning release was best for O.J., the staff, and the community, and said it “had to be done for safety reasons.”
“The Nevada Department of Corrections, in an effort to ensure public safety and reduce the potential for incident, released Orenthal James Simpson #1027820, on October 1, 2017, at 12:08 AM from Lovelock Correctional Center,” the statement read, accompanied by a photo of Simpson signing papers while wearing a denim jacket, jeans, and white sneakers.
The Nevada Department of Corrections also released a short video of O.J.’s prison exit.
According to Keast, the police officials told O.J. “Don’t come back,”
O.J. responded with “I don’t have any intent.”
