As appalling and dreadful as it sounds, famous actor Charlie Sheen has revealed that he is diagnosed HIV-positive. He finally revealed the truth to the public and confirmed that he had the disease. “I am here to admit that I am HIV positive,” he said in a US television interview.
The former Two And A Half Men star revealed to Matt Lauer that he had paid “enough to take it into the millions” to keep people from going public about his illness.
Sheen explained to Matt Lauer “I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths,” he said.
Charlie Sheen was diagnosed four years ago.
The actor stated that when he revealed his HIV positive status to friends “the truth became treason”, resulting to “blackmail and extortion and a circle of deceit”. “I trusted them, they were in my inner circle and thought they could be helpful. My trust turned to their treason,” he added.
Sheen also revealed that a prostitute took a photo of his medication and posed as a threat that would sell it to the media. He also cited that his use of drugs was a bad decision, but said it was impossible that he would have passed HIV on to anyone else.
Sheen explained that: “You can never predict how the media will roll with something,” he said. “I hope it’s a lot more forgiving and supportive than a lot of the garbage I’ve read over the past few days – that I knew I had Aids and was intentionally spreading it, it’s as far from the truth as can be.”
Despite society viewing HIV as a disease that comes with a lot of shame and dishonour, the actor stated that he does not feel any stigma attached to the illness.
Although Sheen has been a controversial and troubled Hollywood star in the past; having boasted about sleeping with over 5000 women, allegedly assaulting his wife, being a drug abuser, amongst others, we are still extremely hopeful that he will be able to fight his battle with HIV successfully.
