Missy Elliott’s Protege, Sharaya J, who is becoming a major staple in the Hip Hop community is stretching her audience and vibe into the international territory with the remix of her successful hit single B.A.N.J.I. The Afro EDM Remix, curated by Africa’s 1st Female DJ and Music Producer, DJ Soupa Model, mashes hip hop with Afrobeats to bring you the best of both worlds. The infectious remix gets your head nodding and feet moving from start to finish. Featured on the track are: the Legendary Missy Elliott “Afro Breath of Fresh Air” JayCube, the Songbird, Seyi Shay, and the Grimy African Hip Hop Giant, Sarkodie.

B.A.N.J.I stands for Be Authentic Never Jeopardize Individuality

DJSoupmodel, who’s one of the leading music industry frontiers internationally pictured this movement a long time ago, hence her creation of the Afro EDM genre. The emergence of musical cultures was inevitable and it’s starting to climax in the music industry worldwide.

The remix came about from a conversation with Missy’s camp, Sharaya J, Management, and the interest in merging various genres of music together, Americans and Africans to create a masterpiece.

I was given the task to select the African artists to feature on the song, that would bring the whole picture to life. I needed someone like Sarkodie, who embodies the african hip hop culture. Seyi Shay, has a subtle, yet commanding vocals that crossed over, yet with that African vibe. High vocally ranged Jay Cube, known as the “afro breath of fresh air” brings the hype to the song with his witty lyrics and melody a lot of international industry folks are yearning for so much that he’s already featured on 5 huge records with Well known American acts, coming out in 2017.

My job as the producer and “project manager” was to make sure every single artist was showcased to the highest capacity, while maintaining his/her authenticity, and merging sounds from both ends of the world.

I also wanted to push their boundaries, get them out of their comfort zone, they are not usually used too.

The creation of B.A.NJ.I remix took about a year. There was a lot of back and forth, edits, re-recordings, till every single artist was satisfied. I needed everyone to own their part!

This is the first of many cross culture songs to come out. More are coming out next year produced by DJ Soupa Model.
