Who doesn’t want a flawless finish? We all do but choosing the right products to go hand in hand with our foundation application can be a bit tedious especially if you’re not familiar with cosmetic products on the market. So here is a list of my go to concealors used for various techniques.
Texture, longevity, shade range, easy application, and packaging is how I determine a good concealor.
NOTE: a concealer primarily is used to cover up blemishes, however, when performing other techniques some beauty rules apply:
1. When highlighting your face, the shade should be no more than 2 shades of your skin tone (of you will look an ashy mess loll).
2. When contouring your face the shade should be no more than 2 shades darker than you skin tone.
MAKEUP FOREVER FULL COVERAGE CONCEALER
This concealor comes in 12 shades ranging from “Pink Porcelain” to “Ebony”. It is SUPER long lasting! Considering that I have terribly oily skin this concealor is my go to for the summer time. This creamy consistency leaves a matte finish while leaving your skin at perfection. It is oil free, waterproof, and does not get cakey. Highly pigmented with a full coverage consistency, it is capable of covering scars, hyper-pigmentation or any discoloration on the skin.
At photo shoots, I may use this on a client who has a scar on various parts of their skin. This literally replicates skin once set with a little dab of powder. One thing that I REALLY love about this product is when highlighting the face you do not need to set with a loose powder of any sort. Once applied on the face it dries quickly so blend it out with a wet sponge. Also, a little goes long way with this product because of its rich, thick texture.
As for packaging, MUFE (Makeup Forever) made it a tube-like shape filling it up with 05 oz of product. The small small narrow nozzle helps you control how much product you’re taking out.
This retails for $32. You can buy this at Sephora or your local Makeup Forever Pro store. I’ve been using this concealer for a long time and I’m not even half way through it.
NARS Concealer Stick
This product comes in 10 shades ranging from “Chantilly” (Ivory) to “Cafe” (warm-red undertone). I came across this from @Makeupshayla IG when she mentioned that she uses this concealor to carve and contour her facial features. I decided to give it a try and since then this is my go to for contouring as a base. Its stick like figure makes it easier to control when applying and leaves a natural –opaque finish. What I love about this product is that it does not transfer nor budge.
Its nice to know that NARS formulated this concealor excluding out parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, phthalates, GMOs, and triclosan.
This lightweight creamy concealer retails at $24. You can buy it at your local Sephora or NARS counter.
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer
I call this the HOLY GRAIL of concealors !!! A few years ago I was referred to this product to achieve an awesome flawless highlight that DOES NOT CAKE/CREASE under the eyes. Considering that Bobbi Brown formulated this to be creamy and rich it is only used under the eyes to achieve a youthful and bright look. Since Bobbi Brown made this to be used under the eyes, the MUAs at the counter will advise you not to use this on your T-Zone area.
I really can’t express my love for this product enough! To the point that I bought the Concealer/Foundation/Corrector palette ($250; $150 with pro MUA discount) to use on clients. It is very easy to blend and leaves you looking very flawless. Remember, a little goes a long way! I love the way it comes out on photos as well.
A single concealer retails for $25. Pictured is the full palette $250. Go to your local Sephora or Bobbi Brown counter for purchase.
MAC Studio Finish Concealer
I am pretty sure a lot of us are familiar with this product. Very creamy and gives a nice opaque finish. I rarely use this as an under eye highlight (it creases for me)but I do like it to highlight the rest of my face and cleaning around my brows. MAC is known for their shade system NC and NW. This ranges from NC15 to NW50 in 15 shades. I would consider this a medium-full coverage product.
Retails for $19
MAC Prolongwear Concealer
A medium-full coverage, and lightweight concealer that leaves a natural yet matte finish. The texture is fluid like making it easy to blend the product into the skin. It helps conceal and correct dark under eye circles and imperfections on the skin. It lives up to its name, ‘prolongwear’ lasting through out the day without creasing under the eyes. This comes in 14 shades making it versatile for various skintones.
Retails for $20
Coastal Scents Camouflage Palette
How can I forget my first palette? When I started off doing makeup a few years ago this was my go to palette for not only concealers but also foundation (did not have foundations then ) to use at shoots. This saved my plenty of times! For such an affordable item the quality is great! I consider this a medium-buildable coverage with a creamy consistency. Comes in 10 shades from light to dark ranging in both yellow and red undertones.
