One of Africa’s biggest stars, Wizkid (Ayodeji Balogun) is sharing with everyone some info concerning his undeniable global success! The music icon was interviewed by FADER Magazine, where he talked about his numerous collaborations, including writing with Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin on a song for Rihanna, another collaboration with Tinie Tempah, an unreleased song called “African Bad Girl” with Chris Brown and many more!
Wizkid has garnered hundreds of awards since the beginning of his career, but his accolades are not what truly matters to him. “My real fans know I am not really about that kind of thing. That was not the reason why I fell in love with music” he said.
His 2014 hit Ojuelegba happens to be one of his most popular tunes yet. Amongst every Nigerian artists’ music, no song has been as wide-reaching as Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba.” The song received numerous airplay on all major radio stations in Nigeria, and peaked at number 1 on Capital Xtra’s Afrobeats Chart for February 2015. On July 11, 2015, Drake premiered his remix of the song along with Skepta on his OVO Sound Radio.
“I knew it was a good song,” Wizkid says, “but I didn’t expect it to blow up the way that it did.”… Neither did we!
In an interview with Fader 100, Drake explained why he decided to do drop a verse on the Star Boy’s hit track. “I just did it because I was in the moment. I wasn’t thinking like, ‘Oh man, I gotta get my brand up in Nigeria.” Not to say that’s not important. I’m super honored to be on that song.” he said.
Concerning his upcoming EP ‘Sounds from the Other Side’ Wizkid states: “I’m a perfectionist. I can listen to the music now and tomorrow I’ll be like, ‘Yo, I feel we need to change this’, and then we have to go back to the drawing board”
On house music, the Star Boy explained “I like the way house music is produced. In Africa, house music artists are the ones most likely to cross over internationally. There are very few African artists who can do that”
